During the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, four photographers from the Magnum agency \u2013 Alex Majoli, David Alan Harvey, Jonas Bendiksen and Susan Meiselas \u2013,\u00a0four new names in Brazilian photography \u2013\u00a0B\u00e1rbara Wagner, Pio Figueroa, Andr\u00e9 Vieira and Breno Rotatori \u2013 and Garapa and M\u00eddia Ninja collectives, joined forces to create the Offside Brazil Project,\u00a0a partnership between Magnum, Instituto Moreira Salles (IMS), Save the Dream foundation and ESPN.<\/p>\n

The team of photographers spread out around the big cities hosting the sporting event, to see what happened off the pitches, tirelessly working to capture, edit and publish their findings.\u00a0Without actually photographing the matches themselves, they created a contemporary image bank of the areas surrounding the stadiums, including FIFA exclusion zones, protests, nightlife in the cities, religious rituals, and daily life in Brazil alongside the World Cup celebrations.<\/p>\n

Issue #7 of ZUM magazine <\/a>published a vast portfolio of images from the project, which was included in the IMS\u2019s collection of contemporary photography, with approximately 25 pictures from each photographer taking part \u2013 check some of them in the slideshow below.<\/p>\n\r\n
